The IWSD is a not for profit, non-governmental development co-operation organization registered in Zimbabwe and Southern Africa as a Social Welfare Organisation supporting the achievement of sustainable development and management of water resources, water supply, sanitation, and hygiene in the Southern Africa Region. IWSD supports government entities, development agencies, water utilities, water users and related institutions through activities that enhance institutional roles and create an enabling environment for effective delivery.
IWSD has provided education to more than 2000 WASH professionals from across Zimbabwe and the Southern Africa. These form the institution’s alumni community. The skills and knowledge acquired from the institution has placed them in key sector positions across government ministries, Local authorities, private sector and civil societies, supporting the implementation of global WASH agenda and improving the lives of communities they serve.
IWSD is the secretariat for the Water and Sanitation Utilities Professionals Association (WASUPA). The recently established association is the first of its kind in Zimbabwe with a clear mission of regulating professional standards for Water, Waste water and solid waste management practitioners across the whole country through registration, monitoring and professional development. The WASUPA aims to pool expertise, codifying knowledge and experience into best practices and ability to solve basic problems within the sector.
